Amanda Kai Newman is currently residing and working in New York City. Upon recieving her MFA in Costume Design from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a three year program on full scholarship and work study, she moved to New York to persue her career.

Amanda knew the career she wanted early on and decided to follow her path by interning her senior year of high school at the Asolo Repertory Theater in Sarasota, Florida. While at the Asolo she was able to work closely with designers from all over the country and learn from their varied techniques, from there she enroled at Cornell College in Iowa. During her time at Cornell College she assisted in teaching a basic costume construction class and designed and worked on various productions, in multiple capacities. Also while at Cornell College she was awarded the opprotunity to intern in New York City with William Ivey Long. Amanda jumped at the opprotunity to learn from one of the best and most influential Broadway Costume Designers of today.

Amanda also devotes time to her hobby of ceramics when she can. When she goes home, she paints ceramic pieces for her parents as a way to paint fine, small, detail work and to relax. Recently (summer of 2015) she did an assistantship for two months at La Meridiana, a ceramic school in Certaldo, Italy. While there she learned new painting techniques, new ways to throw ceramics and new styles. She also learned how cook good Italian food, from an excelent chef at the school.
